Full Service Video Production

Concept & Scripting
1. The first and most important steps are always to clarify your objectives and develop a strategy that will meet them. This process includes defining your target audience, basic message, format, timeline and budget. Next we develop a production outline, script or series of questions the video will answer.

Pre-production & Shooting
2. With a clear sense of our objectives and a great concept, we can now begin planning an organized, efficient and cost-effective shoot. We’ll determine the shooting schedule, locations, talent, props, etc. The goal while shooting is to get all the footage we want while remaining flexible enough to follow our inspiration in the moment.

Editing & Delivery
3. This is where your video gets its legs. We lay down the raw footage, make adjustments, add titling and graphics, make more adjustments, fine tune the audio, then export to your desired format(s). You’ll be able to see each new version and give notes, either via the internet or right in our editing studio.

Business & Non-Profit Profile Videos
A basic website is great for sharing information, but nothing can tell the story of a business or non-profit, as well as capture its personality, like a well-made video. People use the internet to learn about and gain confidence in all kinds of businesses and non-profits before making the trip in person or picking up the phone.

Restaurants, yoga studios and auto shops can show off their amazing facilities, qualified staff, even their satisfied customers, in just a minute or two and with no more effort for website visitors than a mouse click. Non-profits can entice volunteers and potential donors with a quick overview of their programs as well as the tangible positive impact of their work.

In an effort to give back to the community, Whaleheart offers a 10% discount to all 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations. Be sure to ask about this when you contact us.

Our short documentaries have screened at film festivals, on public television stations and in schools around the world. We believe that the best documentaries let their subjects speak for themselves while simultaneously acknowledging the inherent subjectivity of the form.

We take our time to find the heart of the story, and we make sure to capture it no matter how many twists and turns it may take. If you have a documentary project you’re passionate about, we’d love to help bring it to life.

Narrative Films
In addition to our work in the commercial and not-for-profit sectors, we also make short and feature fiction films. Our very first project was a short feature, entitled Mandarose, co-written and directed by Gabe Van Lelyveld. This project, filmed over 17 days in Portland, OR with an all-local cast and crew, had a budget of over $10,000. Funding was raised almost entirely through two successful Indiegogo campaigns (similar to Kickstarter) and the film premiered at the Headwaters Theater in North Portland. For more information, visit

Public Service Announcements
Public Services Announcements (PSAs) are a great way to communicate a simple message to a specific community or to the entire world. They don’t have to be overly fancy or expensive, but they do have to be entertaining as well as informative. The best PSAs are built on a solid concept and flawless execution. We can strategize with your organization to find an original and cost-effective idea that will drive your message home.

Special Event Videos
We’ve shot everything from weddings to dance competitions to live theater to city council meetings. Let us help you capture your special event with style and clarity. Our background in documentary filmmaking means that we anticipate where the action will happen and know how to minimize our presence, thereby allowing people to focus on the event and not the cameras. We can work with almost any budget to produce a video that will capture the heart of your event for generations to come.

Video Consulting and Training
Project estimates are always free and we’re happy to answer basic questions. Beyond that, we offer consulting and training in all aspects of video production. If you’re thinking about making your own videos and want to know which gear to buy, how to light an interview or how to work with your editing software, we can help.

A small investment in training can not only save you money in the long run, but help you create professional looking and sounding video while avoiding some of the common mistakes that beginners make. No job is too big or small.

Projects vary greatly in complexity and scope. For this reason, it’s difficult to estimate the cost of producing a video without getting into some of the details. We can work with almost any budget and we’ll always produce a free estimate for your project. We look forward to hearing from you.
